Civic Learning Week

Thank you to Florida Senate President Ben Albritton for formally recognizing the second week of March as Civic Learning Week! This nationwide initiative promotes a deeper understanding of government, civic responsibility, and constitutional principles through activities and events that highlight voting, civil rights, public discourse, and citizen participation.

During this week, schools, communities, and civic groups hold activities, lessons, and events that highlight topics like government, voting, civil rights, public discourse, and citizen participation. Civic Learning Week is designed to engage learners of all ages in understanding how their government works and how they can contribute to it. Being civically engaged is essential to a healthy democracy as doing so not only strengthens democracy but also leads to real change. Civic engagement empowers citizens to shape their communities, hold leaders accountable, and work together to address challenges facing society. Encouraging civic learning among younger generations helps build the knowledge and habits needed for lifelong participation in public life.

Special thanks are extended to former Congressman Dennis Ross and Dr. Stephen Masyada at the Lou Frey Institute for their leadership in advancing civic education, as well to the Florida Legislature for supporting this important effort.
