ACPL WASHINGTON D.C. TRIP HIGHLIGHTS

On this trip, we had the honor of meeting the House of Representatives Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Assistant Secretary of Education Gwen Graham, Congressman Darren Soto, Congressman Scott Franklin, Congresswoman Kathy Castor, and the Capitol Chief of Police. Our group also had the honor of meeting Tim Tebow after testifying in front of the House of Representatives! We had the privilege of learning from staff members in the majority whip Emmers office and touring a Senate Committee room led by SEU Alumni Chief Counsel Austin Rogers.

I had the fortunate experience of taking students from the ACPL Political Science Capstone class, to attend their annual trip to Washington, DC. During this trip, the students met with Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise and Assistant Secretary of Education, Gwen Graham. Personal meetings with the students also included Congressman Scott Franklin, Congressman Darren Soto, and Congressman Kathy Castor. One of the highlights of the trip was meeting with Tim Tebow after he testified in the House Judiciary Committee. While the schedule was exhaustive, the students never slowed down. We had the fortunate opportunity to receive a briefing from the Chief Counsel for the Senate Judiciary Committee, Austin Rogers, who is a 2013 graduate of SEU. These students had a transformative experience which will impact them for the rest of their lives. At the ACPL, we are helping build statesman leaders.
