Political polarization has continued to increase in our country in recent years, and during this election season, it’s becoming even more prevalent.
SEU students have noted that navigating the political landscape as Christians can be challenging. In response, the American Center for Public Leadership (ACPL) identified the need for an event that would offer essential knowledge at the intersection of faith and politics. On October 1, we invited three professors with expertise in these areas to participate in a panel and share their insights. This event was a collaborative effort involving the ACPL, the SEU Student Theology Club, and the SEU Student Government Association.
The panelists were Dr. Joe Davis (professor of religion in the Barnett College of Ministry), Dr. Ben Gomez (professor in the Barnett College and chair of SEU Latin America), and former Congressman Dennis Ross (distinguished professor and director of the ACPL).
Joanne Sinniah, SEU student body vice president, moderated the conversation by asking curated, thought-provoking questions submitted by the student body. This event had a successful turnout, and allowed students to think deeply about their own roles in both politics and civic engagement.
