Ray LaHood Visits SEU: A Lesson in Bipartisanship

On March 20, 2025, the American Center for Public Leadership had the honor of welcoming former Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood to Southeastern University. A seasoned public servant, LaHood brought with him a powerful message on the value of bipartisanship and relationship-building in today’s divided political climate.

As the only Republican to serve in President Obama’s cabinet, Secretary LaHood shared unique insights into navigating political differences and working across party lines. His experience in both Congress and the executive branch highlighted the crucial role of respect and cooperation in effective leadership.

During his message, LaHood emphasized that this generation must confront the growing challenge of political polarization. To guide others on this journey, he wrote Seeking Bipartisanship: My Life in Politics, a book that outlines his efforts to bridge divides and foster meaningful dialogue.

The purpose of this event was to give SEU students the opportunity to learn firsthand from a national leader about the importance of civil discourse and building genuine relationships. Through events like this, the ACPL continues to encourage the next generation to lead with character, civility, and a commitment to unity.
